LAHORE: The price of LPG has been increased by Rs5.70 per kilogram across the country, Geo News reported Tuesday.
After the LPG Producers and Marketing companies raised the LPG price by Rs5770 per metric tonne, the distributors also raised the prices of the gas, which would be put in effect from tonight.
President LPG Distributors Association Irfan Khokhar told Geo News that after the recent raise, the gas would be sold at Rs90/kg in Lahore, Rs100 in Northern Areas, Rs95 in Murree and Karachiites would buy the gas at Rs88/kg.

KARACHI: The Chairman of All Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (APSMA) Askandar Khan said sugar mill owners will unveil the truths in next two weeks and submit the reply of notice issued by Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) within 15 days.
He said sugar mills are providing sugar at the rate of Rs.36 per kilogram since last two months as sugar hoarders and profiteers are responsible for providing sugar at high rates to consumers. He said APSMA had never accepted the alleged nexus.
On the other hand, Chairman CCP Khalid Mirza said CCP did not proposed 10 years punishment to head of business enterprise involves in violation of competition ordinance. He said the present law is working effectively therefore parliament should accept it.

KARACHI: Sugar became a rare commodity these days as common man has failed to get it even on higher rates.
Despite formal meetings and measures, sugar is still out of reach from the public across the country. The hoarders are doing what they want to do as sugar is hardly available at Rs. 60 to 80 per kilogram in the markets of Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta.
The provincial government of Sindh once again assured wholesalers that sugar mills will start providing sugar in couple of days. On the other hand, wholesalers having a stance that sugar mills in Sindh are using delay tactics and agreed to provide little quantity of sugar which could not reduce the price.

KARACHI: The banks have agreed to lend Rs85 billion to the government through Term Finance Certificates, to help pay debt to oil and power companies.
The five-year bonds will be priced at 2 percentage points above six-month Karachi interbank offered rate, which was 12.67 percent on Thursday, Masroor Ahmad Qureshi, head of debt department in Finance Ministry was quoted as saying by Bloomberg. The banks will provide the funds in a day or two, he added.
The government is raising funds on behalf of state- owned Pakistan Electric Power Company to pay companies like Pakistan State Oil, biggest fuel retailer, and power companies for delayed payments for fuel and electricity. The funds will help reduce circular debt within state- run energy companies.
Privately owned power producers sell electricity to Pakistan Electric Power for transmission and distribution. The non-state electricity producers had reduced production causing shortages of as much as one-third of capacity because of rising debt in past two years.

ISLAMABAD: Sugar is being sold at Rs50 to 52/kg in the retail markets despite the judicial verdict, Geo News reported Friday.
According to the ministry of food, agriculture and livestock, the people are having to buy expensive sugar despite the sugar supply surpassed its demand.
According to Pakistan Sugar Mills Association Chairman Sikandar Khan, the present sugar stock is one million tonnes enough to last till December.
He said he requests the court to maintain the sugar price fixed by the government at Rs45/kg, as Rs35.60 is the cost sugar mills owners pay on per kilogram produce of sugar, excluding other expenditures.
According to market sources, sugar was Rs48/kg at the end of July, which soared now to Rs52/kg in the retail market.

KARACHI: The profiteers continuously selling sugar at prices more then fixed by government through out the country. Government writ has been failed completely as far as implementation of official sugar rates is concerned.
The official retail rate of per kilogram sugar in Karachi is Rs. 47/kg, however, it is available at Rs.50 to 52/kg. In Quetta, official rate is Rs.48/kg but available in market at Rs.54 to 58/kg.
The official rate of sugar for Lahore is Rs.40/kg but in the market, it is available at Rs.47 to Rs.50/kg. In Peshawar, shopkeepers selling sugar at Rs.55 to Rs.60/kg in contrast of official rate of Rs.47/kg whereas in federal capital, retail price of sugar is Rs.50/kg.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Minister for Commerce, Makhdoom Amin Faheem has advised nation cut in use of sugar as he termed it as ‘Injurious to Helath’.
This he said during briefing to media and Senate Committee for Trade on Tuesday.
He dismissed allegations leveled on Trade and Commerce Ministry to create room for sugar crisis in country, adding that my ministry imported sugar as soon as we were directed.
On the occasion, secretary Trade Salman Ghani said the sugar price will be set no less than Rs50 per kilogram in forthcoming season owing to hike in sugarcane crop price.
Government will have to make sure provision of subsidized sugar on cheap prices, he concluded.

ISLAMABAD: Government Friday announced reduction in the prices of petroleum products.
According to the announcement by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the POL prices have been slashed following the decrease in international oil prices.
Petrol price has been cut by Rs1.62 per litre to Rs60.45 from Rs62.13; HOBC slashed by Rs1.77 per litre to Rs77.10 and; kerosene oil decreased by Rs1.44 to Rs57.91.
The CNG price in Sindh and Punjab has been raised by paisas 60 per kilogram to Rs48.60 per. In other parts of the country the CNG price has been reduced by paisas 27 per kg to Rs48.37.

ISLAMABAD: Prices of sugar, tomatoes, chicken, eggs and pulses have witnessed a visible increase in the last few days, further burdening the people falling in low-income groups.
According to figures released by Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS), the price of sugar has surged to Rs48 per kilogram from Rs45 before the arrival of wholly month of Ramazan. The price of tomatoes has advanced by Rs5 per kg to Rs37 and; chicken (alive) up Rs8.50 to Rs118 per kg.
Dall Maash grew expensive by Rs3.50 to Rs101 per kg; Masoor Rs121 per kg showing an increase of Rs2.

QUETTA: The answering copies of FA exams, held two months ago under the Balochistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Quetta (BISE), were sold by a boy by nine rupees per kilogram, Geo news reported.
According to sources, the owner of Roti shop Naik Muhammad told Geo that a boy brought those copies last month to sell them on a scrap shop but as he found scrap shop closed so I bought them from him by 9 rupees per kilogram which completely weighted 11 kilograms.
Sadiq Muhammad, the Union Council Nazim of the area took this issue to media, said that he was taken some pages from those copies following which he took strict notice of the lawlessness.
